What is Our Mission?

Our magazine strives to show the relationship between fantasy and real life. We want to share the perspective of creative minds when thinking about the ways fantasy is both similar and different from our regular lives. We ask our writers and readers to think critically about the genre of fantasy – is fantasy a serious topic? Or should adults focus on realistic fiction and non-fiction? We want to open the world of fantasy to a broader audience, to spark debate, and to facilitate a space to contemplate the importance of the genre.

What is Our Current Prompt?

How does our concept of mortality change when we engage with fantastical worlds? How do the laws of nature affect the meaning of being human or a mortal being when fantastical elements such as magic are introduced? Is mortality equivalent to weakness? Is mortality relevant in our everyday lives when the concept of immortality isn’t obtainable?

About

My name is Carolyn Fuson

Hi, I'm Carolyn, this journal's creator and editor! The inspiration behind The Gilded Fable primarily originates from my love of fantasy. Ever since I was little I have loved the magical worlds fantasy introduced me to. I would watch Beauty and the Beast and The Last Unicorn over and over again until my family begged me to stop. After reading The Lord of the Rings series I began to dive deeper into the literary genre of fantasy. Thus, my love of writing and this journal were born.
